You can also define a plane by holding down the left mouse button and moving the mouse. Select edit plane cut. Aside from moving the plane or rotating it you can also create the plane with which you want to cut the model by drawing a line on the model where the cut is supposed to be placed.
I believe there is a plugin for cura called mesh tools and it has a function to split a model.
